In the Sonoran Desert, something that makes plein air painting very fun is the fact that the qualities of the light and heat dry water based paints very quickly.

It is very much like working in wax encaustic.

Although if you tried to paint wax encaustic outdoors here, it would likely melt!

You simply have to make marks without too much thought going into it. You cannot pussyfoot around.
